THE KING MOVES ON

THE KING MOVES ON – DAVID VESTURE & AMBER CALVER

The halls are quiet now, the crown lies in the dust,
Echoes of a kingdom built on dreams he used to trust.
The portraits on the staircase all look older than before,
And the footsteps of his memory fade beyond the door.

He stares into the window where the years have come and gone,
And whispers to the shadows, “Tell me where I still belong.”
But the winds that once adored him have forgotten how to sing
So he buttons up his coat… and lays down his crown

The king moves on, to a place where no one knows his name,
Where the songs of golden triumph don’t remember why they came.
He walks into the silence like a story nearly gone,
Leaving only whispered legends… as the king moves on.

He recalls the roaring crowds, the banners in the sun,
How the world once bowed before him when his reign had just begun.
But the throne grows cold and fragile when the cheers begin to fade,
And the mightiest of empires can be shaken by the shade.

Still he carries every promise, every vow he ever made,
Though the weight of all his choices leaves a shadow where he stayed.
And the moon above the castle sees a man, not just a king
Taking one more step alone

The king moves on, with his stories worn and thin,
Past the towers and the soldiers who once swore their lives to him.
And the bells that rang for glory now are quiet at dawn,
Only time walks by his side

And oh, how the years fall down like pages in the rain,
How the crown can feel so heavy when there’s no one left to reign.
But he knows the world keeps turning, whether feared or whether fond
So he bows to what is coming…

The king moves on, to a land beyond the throne,
Where the heart becomes a kingdom he can finally call his own.
And the stars that watched his rising now will guide him till the dawn
For the story isn’t over… though the king moves on.
